In an about-face with sourcing, our new vintage of Syrah hails from the north end of Napa Valley, the Calistoga District, whose warmer temps provide a nice stressor to Syrah vines. This Syrah features a structure that is similar to Cabernet, medium-dark and dense, but a flavor profile that is a skosh more intense. Hints of chocolate and leather on the nose evoke a visit to the saddlery. On the palate, find anise and dark fruits, with a polish on the finish that pops. This is a muscular yet voluptuous wine that adds a new dimension to the Saddleback-stocked cellar.

Pair with cassoulet and other long-simmered or braised dishes, roast duck or game, beet and arugula salad.
