2017 Montepulciano
Russian River Valley-sourced Montepulciano

This Italian varietal is sourced from the cooler climes of Sonoma County. Perhaps that’s what accounts for its satisfying roundness and depth of flavor. As a varietal, it’s often confused with Sangiovese, but a side-by-side tasting of Saddleback’s Napa Valley Sangiovese and this Montepulciano would not be confusing at all: the Sangio is a rich ruby color, lighter in body, with a brighter acid and the Montepulciano is a lovely violet, with darker fruit that relaxes on the palate.
On the nose, rosewater, plum and cassis. On the palate, mashed fig and cherry compote with a young finish that lingers. Pair with veal or chicken marsala, pasta, pancetta & peas, late summer blt's, herbed chevre and toasts.
