Family Owned Winery Saddleback Cellars Announce Owner Nils Venge Set to Visit Cuba for California Wine Symposium

Oakville, CA-based family-owned winery, Saddleback Cellars has recently announced that their owner Nils Venge will be attending the California Wine Symposium in Cuba from January 31 to February 3, 2016. The event, which is being organized in collaboration with California Wine Institute, The Napa Valley Vintners, and Sonoma Valley Vintners, will allow attendees to learn more on the wine industry in Cuba.

Wine is an important part of the culture in Cuba. But with limitations in trade with other countries, access to American wines has been limited across the country. With the warming relations with the United States, and with trade talks opening between the two countries, there is now an opportunity for Californian wines to be sent to Cuba for the locals to enjoy. This has led to the inaugural California Wine Symposium to take place in Havana, Cuba in 2016.

At the California Wine Symposium, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more on doing business in Cuba. They will learn about local wine products as well as the local marketplace. They will also have the opportunity to share their wines with local restauranteurs, sommeliers, hotel managers and chefs. Owner of the family-owned Saddleback Cellars Winery, Nils Venge will be in attendance and will be highlighting the company’s wines and the tempting flavors they will bring to the Cuban market.

Specialists for Wine Tasting Tours Saddleback Cellars Participating in Loyola-Marymount Event

Oakville, CA-based vineyard, Saddleback Cellars has recently announced that their team will be in attendance at the Loyola-Marymount University Classic. The event, which is the 35th annual Wine Classic, will bring together winery owners from across California. Saddleback Cellars will be highlighting their wine tasting tours at the event, as well as showcasing the quality of their local products.

By taking part in industry events and introducing their products to other owners and vintners from across the region, California winemakers can ensure their wines achieve a wider audience and gain in popularity. Grilled Pork Loin with Pineapple, Steamed String Beans and Saddleback Sangiovese!

Ingredients:

Serves 4

  • 2013 Saddleback Sangiovese 
  • 1 Pork loin
  • 8,1/2 inch thick slices of fresh pineapple rings
  • 1/3 cup veg. oil
  • string beans

Dry Rub

  • 3 tbs. paprika
  • 2 tbs. granulated garlic
  • 2 tbs. onion powder
  • 2 tbs. ground coriander
  • 1 tbs. cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbs. cumin
  • 1 tbs. black pepper

Instructions:

Thoroughly mix all dry rub ingredients in a bowl and set aside.  Place the loin in a deep baking dish and pour oil over the meat. Thoroughly coat and add the dry rub.  Massage dry rub into the loin ensuring complete coverage.  Set aside for 6 hours in refrigerator. 

Remove the loin to rest at room temperature 30 minutes before grilling.

Open the bottle of Sangiovese and pour yourself a glass! Sear each side of the loin on the grill and reduce the heat. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 145 °F, remove from the grill and cover with foil to rest. 

In the interim, grill the pineapple slices until thoroughly hot. 

Steam the string beans until desired tenderness.

Thinly slice the tenderloin and serve with 2 slices of pineapple, string beans and the remaining glasses of Saddleback Cellars Sangiovese!

Well, harvest is already underway and our crush pad is full of grapes, equipment, and noises! This is by far the most exciting time of the year at the winery because we get to see the quality of the fruit ourselves before we turn it into delicious alcohol! Only 52 miles from the bustling city of San Francisco you can drive up and take the most exciting agricultural production process out there! 

Check out our beautiful Chardonnay grapes below, fruit from Carneros on the left and Rutherford on the right.

Join us for our summer release party on August 1st!

On Saturday, August 1st from 11 - 4 we will be celebrating the release of our 2013 Old Vine Zinfandel and the upcoming harvest!

We will be pouring a number of wines in addition to our Zinfandel along with live music (The Gary Lee Yoder Band) and a big BBQ featuring tri-tip and turkey.

Please attend if you can, we would love to see you there! The event is free for our wine club members and $30 for the general public.
