1997 Chardonnay

Chardonnay
Have you ever tasted those strawberry guavas? This is it mixed with a little honeysuckle. Nice Asian pear crispness across the palate... Really, really fragrant. Clean, firm finish.

Ripe tropical fruit and accents of coconut are nicely framed by spicy oak components. Very complex and toasty with well rounded vanilla and butterscotch flavors. Full and flavorful with loads of fleshy fruit and no malolactic influence... imagine that. A very pleasant style of Chardonnay that has the acidity to improve over the next 3-5 years.

Full, luscious quality on the nose. Fine oak that touches a substantial mouthful. This is a wine to age. A real powerhouse with a splendid lemon grass-like touch on the palate. Its not often that I'm recommending aging a white wine for more than a year. I would say four or five years easily for the 1997 Chardonnay...

Chardonnay Wine Information

Our first vintage of Chardonnay dates way back to 1983 from vines planted on our estate that were then just three years old; subsequently, more were added in 1990 when we T-budded a few rows over from Cabernet Sauvignon. The Chardonnay on the estate is planted with 7x12 bilateral cordon and dry farmed. Chardonnay now totals 2.9 acres of the 14.8 acres planted on our estate. Today, we enhance our Oakville estate with a small amount of fruit sourced from The Garvey Vineyard in St. Helena, located on East Zinfandel Lane.
